Our topic this term has been “The Global Garden & The Great Outdoors” and we have planted our own bean seeds in school. We read lots of fiction and non-fiction books about growing beans, including Jasper’s Beanstalk, by Nick Butterworth and Mick Inkpen. Good luck finding a new home for your seedlings, we hope that you will plant them at home and continue to watch them grow!

EYFS has been home to some tadpoles this term and we have watched them develop from frogspawn into tadpoles. The children have fed them every day and have been amazed to see their back legs grow! We have said goodbye and will release them back into the wild over half term.

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee has provided an opportunity to learn some new facts and have lots of fun. Did you know that:

  • The Queen is called Queen Elizabeth II
  • She has reigned for 70 years
  • She is the longest reigning monarch
  • The UK flag is called the Union Flag (or Union Jack Flag when it is on a boat)

To celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee 2022, we practised making jam and cucumber sandwiches for The Big Jubilee Lunch. The children perfected their knife skills, carefully cutting and spreading to make the perfect sandwich. YUM! We used our observation skills to paint Union Flags, taking care to get the colours in the correct sections, made bunting, using careful cutting skills and designed our own crowns. This was fantastic for our fine motor skills and brush control.

Making sandwiches provided an excellent opportunity for the children to show off their writing skills. They all thought of their favourite part of the day and wrote about it, using their phonic knowledge and segmenting skills. You can see from the images how much thought and energy went into their writing. Super work!
