Fairtrade at St Andrew's C.E. Primary School
We are committed to Fairtrade and are a ‘FairAchiever’ school. Fairtrade is incorporated into children’s learning and regularly visited in assemblies and collective worship. The MAD (Make a Difference) club promote Fairtrade throughout the school. Before the pandemic, the MAD club held Fairtrade tuckshops and ran the Fairtrade stall at the Christmas Fayre. We hope that we can soon get these back up and running!
We celebrate ‘Fairtrade Fortnight’ in February/March each year. In the past, we have had visitors coming into school to talk to the children about the importance of Fairtrade and have activities and competitions organised by the MAD club. During lockdown, home learning activities were set relating to Fairtrade and a number of children entered the online ‘Choose the world you want’ exhibition run by the Fairtrade Foundation.
Every year, we sell the ‘Real Easter Egg’, a Fairtrade chocolate egg with an Easter story booklet that supports charitable projects. Following on from this success, we have now started selling the ‘Real Advent Calendar’ and new for 2021 – the Fairtrade Meaningful Chocolate Orange Christingle.

Fairtrade Fortnight 9th - 22nd September 2024
Across the school, pupils have been learning about the meaning behind the Fairtrade symbol and how Fairtrade links to the part of the world they are learning about. Year 5 made posters to display to parents sharing some of the reasons they feel most strongly for choosing to but Fairtrade. These included ensuring that children have the right to an education and enabling producers to farm sustainably.
