Year 5 - Term 1
This term, Year 5 have been learning all about the Polar Regions — the Arctic and Antarctica. They explored the icy climates, discovered the story of Ernest Shackleton and the Endurance, and learned what life is like in such extreme places.
In English, the children wrote persuasive letters to Shackleton asking to be considered as a member of the crew on the expedition. The had some very compelling arguments! The children then planned their own polar expeditions, using budgets and catalogues to choose the right clothing, equipment and food for their journey.
To finish the topic, they created beautiful winter landscape artwork inspired by William Grill’s illustrations, using tone and texture to craft their designs.
Our children also embarked on their own adventure to Youlbury. They conquered fears, tried new activities and had an amazing time. We are really proud of the courage that they all showed throughout their time on the trip.
